Template Field in Field Management (edit)

Hello,
Would you please discuss how I might use the 'Template' field.

For example,
How would I add a '$' to appear in front of a number i.e. $100.53

How can I make 'CP' appear in front of a number i.e. CP00001

Can Template be used for this, or is it more for formatting?

Yes you can!
Your field must be "number" type. You replace the value by %%
